English Learners

English language learners in the Ridley School District represent over 9 different languages and more than 10 different countries. The instruction is flexible and is based on the needs of the learners in the program. Interdisciplinary content material, as well as material specifically designed for ESL, is used as the medium for students to develop the English language skills needed to communicate in social settings, to achieve academically in all content areas, and to communicate in socially and culturally appropriate ways.

ESL instruction is provided by a certified teacher. Students receive pull-out instruction from the ESL teacher, while taking academic classes within the regular classrooms. Students who exit the program are monitored for a minimum of two years to ensure that they are able to function in the classroom.

Ridley School District is part of the county's ESL Consortium which provides staff development and consulting services to teachers and administrators.
